Paul Pogba is a professional French footballer who renders his services as a central midfielder for French national team and Premier League club Manchester United.

Who is Paul Pogba?

Paul Pogba is well known French footballer who is famous for his versatile abilities like left winger, deep-lying play maker, attacking midfielder and defensive midfielder. Pogba was born in  Lagny-sur-Marne and started his career with Manchester United. Later, he joined Juventus where he received the Golden Boy award in 2013, followed by the Bravo Award in 2014. He captained France in 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup and achieved the award of Best Player of the tournament. In FIFA Cup 2014, he achieved the award of Best Young Player of the tournament. In FIFA Cup 2018, he scored a precious goal leading his team towards a glorious victory.

Early Life

Pogba was born in Lagny-sur-Marne, Seine-et-Marne and his parents belonged to Guinea and were Muslims. He has two elder brothers who are also footballers like their brother. His family moved towards Europe due to poverty and settled in France in early 1960’.


Pogba started his early football career at the age of only six years when he started playing for US Roissy-en-Brie. He served as a captain of the club’s under-13 team after joining US Torcy. After that he joined a professional club Le Havre where he captained its under-16 team.

In 2009, he made an announcement that he is going to join the youth academy of Manchester United. This announcement surprised everyone including Le Havre who thought it the denial of the agreement with Pogba. Le Havre requested FIFA to interrupt and probe into the matter, at this, Manchester United threatened Le Havre to sue the club. But, at the end, both the clubs reached an agreement but the details were kept confidential.

In July 2012, Pogba signed a four years contract with Italian club, Juventus and left Manchester United in a disrespectful way as Manchester United claims. In 2014, The Guardian named him as the most promising ten young players of Europe. In 2016, Pogba returned to his former club, Manchester United.

He started his international career for France with the national youth football team and took the captaincy of the U-16 team. He secured superb victories for his country over the Uruguay and Italy.

In 2013, he made his debut for senior team in a qualifying match of FIFA cup 2014 against Georgia and scored his first international goal in that qualifying round against Belarus. As a result of his excellent performance, he was selected in the squad for FIFA Cup 2014.

In FIFA Cup 2014, he scored his first goal and achieved the award of the Man of the Match by FIFA. In the quarter finals, Pogba made a mistake and gave a penalty corner to Germany. As a result, France were eliminated from the tournament but Pogba got the award of the Best Young Player of the tournament.

In Euro Cup 2016, he led his team towards runner up where Portugal defeated them.

In FIFA Cup 2018 held in Russia, he scored an opening goal against Australia but the following day, it was declared an own goal to Behich. His excellent performance lead France to win FIFA Cup 2018.

Awards & Honors

Pogba achieved FIFA U-20 World Cup Golden Ball in 2013 and in the same year he also got the Golden Boy award.

In FIFA Cup 2014, he achieved the award of FIFA World Cup Best Young Player and in the same year, he also got Bravo award.

Personal Life

Paul Pogba is a Muslim by religion. He married to a Bolivian model María Zulay Salaues in 2019, and the couple has two children together. Paul is in favor of the rights of gay people that they should be equally treated. He is very aggressive in the field and is known by his unique hair style all over the world.


He got the nickname “Il Polpo Paul”, which translates to “Paul the Octopus”, during his time at Juventus.

He loves his mother a lot. He took his mother to the red carpet event of FIFA, when most of the players would bring their girl friends.
